Bourbon Barbecue Sauce

For best results, let this mix sit in the fridge to let the flavors marry for a few days. Try sub’ing whiskey in here if you don’t have bourbon available. This sauce will work on pretty much any game and fish – and is especially good on the grill.

 

Bourbon Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion finely diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 lemons sliced
  • pinch red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add brown sugar and stir to blend. Cook for 2 minutes more. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes over medium low heat, stirring often. Remove lemons before serving.
